Coach Tony Whicker has been the head coach of girls varsity soccer at St. George’s since 2005. He was an MVP for three years when he played at Belhaven College and went on to play soccer professionally for eight years before taking up coaching. Coach Whicker has previous experience with both high school and college Athletes. “When our players come out we tell them if they want to be a part of a family, if they want to be challenged and supported and if they want an experience that will last them a lifetime then this is the place for them. They have to be willing to pour into others while others pour into them”. Coach Whicker’s coaching philosophy is to develop every player, no matter their starting point, to the best of my ability. I want to make sure they understand it is about the journey and not always the destination. I tell them that if they focus on their daily contributions and their challenges then their time in the program will be well worth the sacrifice and they will have memories for a lifetime. Coach Whicker has been named the Region Coach of the Year four times and the Commercial Appeal Best of Preps Coach of the Year two times. In addition to girls soccer, Coach Whicker is also the boys varsity soccer coach. Coach Whicker is also the director of wellness. |
