About Soccer - MS Girls Gold

From Athletic Director Michelle York:

We are grateful God has led your family to our school community and hope your lives will be enriched by your experiences at St. George’s.

We are excited to introduce you to our department and to the array of sports we offer. We hope this information will serve as a helpful guide as you and your student make decisions about athletic participation. We strive to provide excellent service and support to our families as we live out the mission of our school.

St. George’s is a vibrant community with tremendous culture and a rich history of supporting its teams and student-athletes. Our student-athletes strive to be the best they can be every day and our coaches seek to transform and impact every student-athlete on their team. I invite you to join us at our athletic events to support and celebrate their dedication and achievement.

Great things are happening in Gryphon athletics and I hope you join us on this journey. See you in the stands.

Go Gryphons!

Michelle York, Athletic Director

Our school mascot is the Gryphon, a mythological creature with the body of a lion and the wings and head of an eagle. Symbolizing intelligence and strength, the Gryphon represents the holistic education for which we are known.

Mission.

The mission of the St. George’s Upper School Athletic program is to develop our student-athletes’ gifts, exemplify strong values, and serve God.

Philosophy.

St. George’s Athletics is founded on the teaching of Judeo-Christian values.  These values and corresponding philosophies may differ substantially from schools with other philosophies or beliefs.  Our philosophy of athletics should provide an opportunity for others outside the St. George’s community to visualize actions and principles that are quite unique in today’s society.  The St. George’s athletic program is a wonderful opportunity to bless the community through exemplary actions, attitudes, sportsmanship, and a high level of individual and team athletic skill.  The challenge for our student-athletes, parents, and coaches is to adhere to the mission and core values of St. George’s and always seek to put others before ourselves.

The following priorities of athletic participants are based on the mission of the school.

  • All participants must understand, agree, and adhere to the mission and core values of St. George’s Independent School and Athletic Department.

  • The spiritual, psychological, and physical well-being of the individual athlete must take precedence over any individual or team athletic accomplishment.

  • Athletic excellence and accompanying awards should be strived for and established as appropriate goals for any athlete or team but not the sole focus and/or purpose.

Core Values.

Our athletic department is committed to fostering an environment that embodies the following core values to guide our conduct, decision-making, and the holistic development of our student-athletes.

  • Judeo-Christian values
  • Responsibility
  • Integrity
  • Trust
  • Teamwork
  • Enthusiasm
  • Respect

Sportsmanship. Teamwork. Leadership. Commitment.

The St. George’s athlete is committed to sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership.  St. George’s believes in enriching the lives of our student-athletes through robust athletic experiences, interscholastic competition and a comprehensive fitness and nutrition program. On the playing field, as in the classroom, St. George's promotes citizenship, leadership, teaches the importance of sportsmanship and fair play, and aims to inspire a passionate pursuit of excellence.
