Sami Hartsoe serves as the head coach for the St. George’s varsity volleyball team. She received a bachelor of arts degree in cultural studies from Christian Brothers University in 2015, where she was also an MCAA Division II student-athlete and team captain in her third and fourth years. She is working toward a graduate degree in special education at CBU. Coach Hartsoe’s coaching philosophy is that it is her responsibility as a coach to focus on the process versus the outcome. “As a program, we focus on the "We over Me" philosophy: each player is as important to success as the next. Player development over win-loss records is key to long term success. We focus on contributing to the growth of the whole person instead of just making them great volleyball players. We instill confidence, positive self-talk, mental toughness and resilience on and off the court, and good sportsmanship with our own teammates as well as opposing teams. Finally, I teach my players the importance of accountability and responsibility. Being able to recognize one's role on a team and how they can best support their teammates is key to success”. Coach Hartsoe's Transformational Coaching Statement: "I lead with the intent of developing the whole athlete through perseverance, accountability, and empathy by way of encouragement and love. My goal as a servant leader is to help each child find their potential on and off the court which will lead to the ability to find success throughout their lives". |
